Are you looking for a very easy game to play with no dangerous consequences?  Maybe you and your friends are bored and looking for something fun to do/try.  Give Light As A Feather, Stiff As A Board a try, there are no consequences for failing and if it does work it’ll blow your mind.

What You Need:

4-6 people is all you need to play the game (1 person is required to be the person to be levitated, and AT LEAST 3 people are needed to “lift” them.  5 people [to lift] are ideal though and more just makes it all the more easy to do thus making it less impresive to accomplish.)

What is “Light As A Feather?”

Light as a Feather is a game most teenage girls used to play at sleepovers.  The object of the game is for 4-5 people to easily levitate the main person using only 2 fingers on each hand. It’s said that the game can be explained by every person lifting at the exact same time “evenly distributes the weight of the person being lifted” making it quite easy for 4 or 5 people to lift someone who’s body is “stiff like a board”.  It’s also said that the main reason it doesn’t work the first time is because everyone doesn’t lift at the EXACT same time therefor each person is trying to lift the full weight alone.

How to Play:

  1. The main person lies flat on their back (facing the ceiling with their eyes closed and arms crossed over their chest).

  2. 4-5 Friends kneel around them in a circle and place their index & middle fingers on each hand under them.

  3. Everyone concentrates on lifting the person while chanting in unison “Light as a feather, stiff as a board” over and over.

*Note*: This likely won’t work the first time so you should try again, it’s said that for some odd reason it works better on the second time, on the second time try saying “Light as a feather, stiff as a board…Light as a feather, stiff as a board…Light as a feather, stiff as a board…ONETWOTHREE!” then try lifting the person, make sure everyone lifts at the exact same time and the person being “lifted” has their body stiff like a plank of wood.

Why Play “Light As A Feather?”

Some people think “Why would I play this?, there is nothing to gain by doing so.”, and to that I say…”because it’s fun”, if it does work everyone will be amazed and have something to talk about for days to come, and even if it doesn’t work there’s no consequences and while playing it’ll still have that “spooky” atmosphere (especially if you decide to do it in the dark with some candles lit for ambiance).

Do I Recommend Playing “Light As A Feather”?

Sure, As I said there are no consequences to playing it (just make sure IF you play with candles lit that the candles are out of the way in case it does start working and someone freaks out and breaks the “connection” thus dropping the person to the floor…it likely wouldn’t be high enough to hurt but could get a candle knocked over.)  While it CAN be explained it’s still fun to think maybe, just maybe the spirits are around, helping you lift your friend.

  1. Hey,

Well, this is a game that I never heard of!! It seems fun since we can play it with friends! I already tried so many games, board games, and even video games but I never found something that satisfies my needs. I know that I am difficult to please person when it comes to games! But I want to give this game a try! I mean as you explained this game seems easy but fun too. However, I have a question about this light as feather game! Is it playable with like 3 people or should I have 4+ people to be able to play it? Also, I am not sure what are the rules for this game!?

    Thank you!

    1. There’s not really any rules, the person “being lifted” should try to keep their body stiff and the others should be focusing on lifting the person. I believe it CAN be played with 3 people but it’ll be much harder to accomplish if you mean 3 people period then there should be 1 on each side of the person to be levitated, I would say to place your fingers under the should and hip. If you meant 3 “lifters” there should be 1 on each side and one at the head. The person at the head should have fingers under the persons shoulders and the ones on the sides should have theirs under hips and calves.
